A prayer for the souls in purgatory
Some of the dead are prayed for every day by the people who loved them. Others have no one left to remember them, and the Church has always kept a special tenderness for these, the forgotten souls.
Praying for them costs you nothing and is, in the old phrase, a work of mercy: love offered to someone who can no longer ask for it.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
